Celebration  of  75th Anniversary of Indias Independence

The Consulate General of India in Shanghai celebrated the 76th Independence Day of India with great zeal, enthusiasm and patriotic fervour on 15th August, 2022. To mark the special occasion of 75th  Anniversary of Independence Day, the celebrations were organised throughout the day, including a special cultural programme in the evening.

In morning, the celebrations started with the flag hoisting ceremony. Dr.N. Nandakumar, Consul General of India hoisted the National Flag. Then the National Anthem was sung in unison by the members of Indian Community and Friends of India in China. As a tribute to the 75th  Anniversary of India’s Independence, around 75 members of Indian community in Shanghai recited the National Anthem from the Dais.

After the National Anthem, the Consul General read out the address of the Smt Droupadi Murmu, Hon’ble President of India, to the nation.

Members of Indian community presented colourful cultural performances during the programme. The performances included melodious patriotic songs and dances depicting supreme sacrifices and invaluable contributions made by the freedom fighters, revolutionaries and ordinary people of India during the course of India’s freedom struggle.

As part of ‘HarGharTiranga’ campaign, a special pavilion for ‘Selfie with Tiranga’ was set-up at the premises for taking pictures/selfies with the National Flag. Members of Indian community enthusiastically clicked pictures/selfies with the Tiranga. They were also encouraged to post the selfies on the website https://harghartiranga.com/ themed ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ created by Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

A cultural evening was also organised by the Consulate to mark the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence. The cultural evening included classical, folk and contemporary dance performances by Indian and Chinese dancers, songs on various themes including women empowerment, and Ideas and Ideals that shaped India over the last 75 years, a skit on white revolution, and a rendition of raga Yaman on tabla and sitar. The evening programme also showcased Indian cuisine from all regions of India.

The highlight of the evening was the Bharatanatyam dance performance by Prof. Jin Shanshan and her daughter and student Jessica. They performed three dances: Tandava Nritya Kari,  Andal Kulthuvam and Keerthanam in Ragam Desh.  Prof. Jin Shanshan is a renowned scholar and practitioner of Indian classical dance in China. She was trained under Guru Leela Samson of India and runs her own academy, Sangeetham Indian Arts, in Beijing.

In the run up to the celebrations of 75th Anniversary of our Independence, Consulate had organised a series of cultural programmes and competitions since July 23. All the participants and prize winners were felicitated by the Consul General.

The Independence Day Celebrations, organised at the Chancery plot of the Consulate, witnessed an overwhelming participation from members of Indian community, Indian diaspora and friends of India from the Eastern China Region.
