Indian Pavilion inaugurated at Yiwu Imported Commodities Fair 2016

1.      An Indian Pavilion was inaugurated today at the Yiwu Imported Commodities Fair 2016 jointly by Consul General and Vice Mayor of Yiwu Mr. Xiong Tao.  The Indian Pavilion witnessed participation from 28 Indian companies who had been grouped together by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) and had travelled from India to attend the Yiwu Imported Commodities Fair 2016.

2.      Vice Mayor of Yiwu Mr. Xiong Tao was deeply impressed by the products on display at the Indian Pavilion and conveyed to EPCH representatives that Indian handicrafts had a significant potential in the Eastern China Region.  Both Consul General and Vice Mayor of Yiwu jointed visited each of the Indian company booths and encouraged them to participate on an even larger scale at the next year event.

3.      Separately following the inaugural of the Indian Pavilion Consul General also met with Yiwu Vice Mayor (In-charge of cultural activities) Madam Wang Ying and discussed a proposal to organize an India Culture Week in Yiwu towards the end of 2016.  Consul General also proposed the organization of the second International Day of Yoga at a prominent venue in Yiwu which will be organized on 23rd June 2016.  Vice Mayor Madam Wang Ying assured Consul General of Yiwu Government’s full support for both the proposals.

4.      It may be noted that Yiwu (located in Zhejiang Province) is the world’s largest small commodity trading marketing and already has a sizeable number of Indian traders based out of Yiwu.The second Yiwu Imported Commodities Fair 2016 will witness the participation of Indian companies till 17th May 2016.
