Gandhi Jayanti and Swachhta Pakhwada celebrated in Shanghai

Consulate General of India, Shanghai celebrated 148th Birth Anniversary of Rashtra Pita Mahatma Gandhi, and International Day of Non-Violence with great pride and joy. To commemorate the Gandhi Jayanti and also Swachhta Pakhwada, a series of events were organized including a memorial Lecture, screening of a documentary film and a painting competition for children of Indian community. 

2.   Deputy Consul General Naveen Kumar along with respected senior citizens from Indian community garlanded portrait of Mahatma Gandhi. Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Naveen Kumar also read out the Cleanliness Pledge (Swachhta Shapath) to the gathered audience. Subsequently, a documentary film named ‘MAHATMA - A Great Soul of 20th Century’, produced by Public Diplomacy Division, Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India was also screened, especially to bring the life and deeds of Mahatma Gandhi closer to the young Indians. 

3.   Subsequently, a painting competition on the theme of ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa’ (cleanliness is service) was also organized, in which more than 30 children participated. The winners of the contest were given special prizes along with a prize in certificate to each participant. The event was followed by light Indian refreshments. 

4.   Earlier, to commemorate the Birth Anniversary, a lecture and a round-table conference on the theme - ‘Gandhian Thought and International Relations Today’ was organized on 28th September 2017, at the Centre for Gandhian and Indian Studies (CGIS), Fudan University. Apart from University authorities, a number of scholars and students from different universities participated in the event.
