Talk on ‘Gandhian Thought and International Relations Today’ organized at the Centre for Gandhian and Indian Studies, Fudan University

        To commemorate the upcoming 148th Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and International Day of Non-Violence, a lecture and a round-table conference on the theme - ‘Gandhian Thought and International Relations Today’ was organized on 28th September 2017, at the Centre for Gandhian and Indian Studies (CGIS), Fudan University. Apart from University authorities, a number of scholars and students from different universities participated in the event.

2.     Inaugurating the session, President of the CGIS Prof Liu Zhen of Fudan University welcomes the participants, and reiterated the need to keep referring to Gandhian thought as a means to seek solutions for today’s problems. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Indira Ravindran from School of International Relations and Public Affairs of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU). During the address, Prof Indira Ravindran, emphasized upon the relevance of Gandhian thought in the modern day problems of militarization, urbanization and sustainable development. She also highlighted the importance of Gandhian thought in resolving the disputes among Nations in today’s world.

3.     The address was followed by the round-table and a Q&A session, in which several Indian and Chinese scholars participated. During the round table discussion, the scholars emphasized the importance and relevance of Gandhian thought in contemporary International Relations impressed upon the relevance of Gandhian thought in personal as well as in public life. Prior to the event, the scholars visited the Centre for Gandhian and Indian Studies, located in the Think Tank Building in Fudan University, and garlanded Mahatma Gandhi’s bust to express their reverence.
