“Why I am Proud to be an Indian” Speech Contest organized – large number of young Indian students from Shanghai participate

    In continuation of the celebration of the 70th Anniversary celebrations of Indian Independence,  Consulate General of India in Shanghai along with Indian Association Shanghai organized a Speech Contest titled “Why  I am proud to be an Indian” at the Indian Consulate Conference Hall today. The contest, whose participation was restricted to young Indian students, witnessed a large number of participants from Shanghai turning up to express their views. 

2.  Consul General Prakash Gupta gave the welcome remarks and encouraged the Indian Association Shanghai to make this annual recurring event in the calendar of activities of IA- Shanghai. Visiting former Member of Parliament, Shri Tarun Vijay also addressed the audience and encouraged them to give the Indian flag flying high in China.

3.  In total, nearly 30 participants in two categories (under 10 years of age and above 10 years) participated and spoke emphatically about why they were proud to be Indians – including Indian democracy, Indian pluralism, and unity in diversity, rich history and culture.  Gifts bags and certificates were jointly distributed to all the participants by CGI Shanghai along with the Indian Association.

4.  Earlier, to mark the 70th Anniversary of Indian independence, a Special Event “India@70” was also organized on 15th August evening at Renaissance Yangtze in Shanghai.  A flag hoisting ceremony was also held with a large number of presence of Indians from Eastern China at the Consulate premises on 15th August morning.
