A Special Event - India@70- celebrating 71st Independence Day organized in Shanghai

  1. A special Event was organized by Consulate General of India, Shanghai to Commemorate 71st Independence Day in Shanghai today evening. The Consulate hosted a reception at the Renaissance Shanghai Yangtze Hotel. Representatives of Foreign Affairs Offices from Eastern China Region, CCPIT, members of the diplomatic corps, local dignitaries, business persons; film and art fraternity; media; and prominent Indians from the Eastern China region attended the reception. The event was also graced by Shri Tarun Vijay, President of the India China Parliamentary Group- Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and Former Member of Parliament.           
  2. Consul General in his remarks extended a warm welcome to all and outlined India’s remarkable journey in last 70 years. He highlighted the huge economic potential India has due to the demographic dividends and the new economic policies ushered in by the present government.  
  1. On the occasion, a rendition of classical India dance Odissi was rendered by famous dancer Ms. Namrata Dhavan. Several musical videos depicting India’s rich cultural heritage were also shown to the audience, giving a glimpse of diversity of India. Subsequently, the guests were also given a taste of equally diverse and colourful Indian culinary heritage.

Earlier, in the morning a flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Consulate premises, in which more than 100 members of the Indian community in Shanghai joined to celebrate India@70.  Consul General unfurled the national flag and read out excerpts from Hon’ble President’s address to the nation. A select group of Indian community members rendered patriotic songs on the occasion followed by light Indian refreshments for the attendees.
