Calligraphic Rendition of Chinese translation of Indian Scripture “Bhagavad Gita” at Zhejiang Museum, Hangzhou on June 15, 2017

 

Consulate General of India in Shanghai in association with Zhejiang Museum jointly organized a Calligraphic rendition of Chinese Translation of Indian scripture Bhagavad Gita, titled “Rendezvous in Hangzhou - Calligraphic Works from Bhagavad Gita” by the renowned calligrapher Dai Daosen, at the prestigious Zhejiang Museum in Hangzhou on 15 June 2017. 

  1. The art exhibit was organized as part of the India Week celebrations, and jointly inaugurated by Consul General Prakash Gupta along with a renowned calligrapher Dai Daosen and Mr. Nie Bangrui, President Wangxizhi Organization. 
  1. The exhibition comprises of 88 pieces of calligraphy, which took six months to prepare; and which marks the first stage of “Exhibition of Chinese Calligraphic Works from Eastern and Western Classics”. Thematically, the exhibition ‘Rendezvous in Hangzhou - Calligraphic Works from Bhagavad Gita” centers on the cultural and artistic exchanges between China and India. It aims to exhibit and universalize Oriental culture represented by China and India, including classics in both languages. 
  1. Born in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, Mr. Dai Daosen has been a successful entrepreneur, with enterprises spread across Zhejiang and Gansu provinces. He has been practicing Chinese Tai Ji and probing Confucian, Buddhist, and Taoist ideas, and also specializes in Chinese calligraphy. Mr Dai’s inclination towards Bhagavad Gita was owing to it being not only a revered sacred scripture of Hinduism, but also as one of the most important religious classics of the world; and that through Bhagavad Gita,  readers could gain spiritual insights and knowledge on Hinduism, and about life itself. Dai Dao Sen while inaugurating the exhibition stated that the exhibition brings together two ancient civilizations.

The India Culture Week inaugurated today would comprise of India-China (Hangzhou) Business and Investment Forum; a Photo Exhibition of Buddhist Images at Zhejiang Grand Hotel in Hangzhou; a Painting Exhibition by Chinese artists from Hangzhou Kaiming Art Gallery, who recently visited India on a familiarization trip organized by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), and have subsequently drawn their impressions of India titled “Journey to India” along with Photo Exhibition of Buddhist images; a Food Festival, and another Film Festival at Hangzhou Library. 
  1. All in all, the Festival endeavours to bring unique flavor of India to the people of Hangzhou, through an interactive and immersive experience of various facets of Indian art forms, and is expected to bring a deeper understanding of India to the art-loving people of Hangzhou.
