Indian China (Zhenjiang) Business and Investment Forum and India Culture

Week to commence in  Zhenjiang (March 16 -24, 2017)

 

Consulate General of India in Shanghai along with Zhenjiang Municipal People’s Government would be jointly organizing an India China (Zhenjiang) Business and Investment Forum and India Culture Week celebrations in Zhenjiang.  CGI Shanghai’s template of cooperation with Zhenjiang is a unique initiative bringing together economic, commercial and cultural aspects and intends to transport a truly Indian experience into Zhenjiang in the week beginning 16th March, 2017.

It may be noted that Zhenjiang (located in Jiangsu) is a key industrial hub in Eastern China with a total population of 3.17 million and GDP of USD 5.5 million. Its main industries include new energy, advance equipment manufacturing, bio technology,pharmaceuticals, IT, aviation and space technologies.

Indian China (Zhenjiang) Business and Investment Forum 

Zhenjiang is expected to receive the Indian delegation comprising CEO’s of nearly 30 leading Indian companies, who would be led by Consul General Prakash Gupta, to participate in the Business and Investment Forum, being held on 17th March at Zhenjiang Crown Plaza Hotel. The Indian companies would be introducing the latest investment opportunities in India in sectors like Infrastructure Development, Banking and Finance, Smart Cities, Urban Transportation and Power Sector, which are available to Zhenjiang companies under the Make in India programme.  A series of B2B meetings have also been planned for participating Indian companies with their Chinese counterparts from Zhenjiang. Launch of a new bilingual Website to facilitate Chinese investors: 

During the India China (Zhenjiang) Business and Investment Forum, a new website - CHINDIA360 (www.chindia360.com) - would be launched by one of the

participating Indian companies. The website, which is both in Chinese and English -  is aimed at providing all necessary information to potential China investors, who are looking for investment opportunities in India’s growing market, by providing a updated and timely information on investment guidelines. 

Education Sector Cooperation: MoU Signing between Indian KIIT University and Jiangsu University

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Project Cooperation, to strengthen educational exchanges between Jiangsu University and leading Indian educational institute from Odisha (province from Eastern India), viz. Kalinga Institute of Information Technology (KIIT) University is also expected to be signed. In addition to Jiangsu University, KIIT is also expected to sign MoU’s with Wenzhou University and Yangzhou Polytechnic College to further collaboration in higher academic exchanges. 

India Culture Week

Bollywood Dance Performance at Zhenjiang Theater 

The week long celebrations under India Culture Week in Zhenjiang will be inaugurated with an opening dance performance by renowned Bollywood troupe, specially flown-in from India, at the prestigious Zhenjiang Theatre on 16th March evening. The Bollywood dance has come to represent the contemporary Indian pop music and dance, and is an essential component of Indian cinema. The performance would be a medley of dances to give a unique flavor to the discernible audience of

Zhenjiang. The troupe is being sponsored by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), which is India’s premier agency for promoting cultural exchanges abroad.

Exhibition of Indian Paintings and Photos :

Art lovers from Zhenjiang would also get to view an exhibition of Indian paintings

(drawn by Chinese veteran artist Wang Zhijie) titled “India through Chinese Eyes”.

It is worth noting that Mr. Wang, after his return from India, painted nothing but the Indian landscapes, and subsequently donated these paintings to the Consulate. In addition, the exhibition would also present impressions about India, captured by famous Zhenjiang photographer Hua Yunqing

Separately, a parallel exhibition on Buddhism will also be inaugurated comprising of more than ninety photographs of various prominent Buddhist sites/monasteries from across India. The exhibition, which is being inaugurated for the first time in China, offers a glimpse of Buddhism in its birth place – India. The exhibition aims to portray the life of Buddha, his journey to enlightenment, and spread of Buddhism as religion, philosophy and way of life. 

These paintings and photographs will be on display at the prestigious Xijin Gallery beginning 17th March, which will last for a period of three weeks. 

Indian Bollywood Film Festival 

Given the tremendous interest generated by Indian films amongst Chinese audiences, a week-long Indian Film Festival featuring eight of India’s most successful recent movies – (“PK” “Three Idiots” “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” “Taare Zameen Par” “Queen” “English Vinglish” “Mary Kom” “Ek Villain”all in Chinese) would also be available for viewing as part of the Indian Film Festival Jiangsu University campus.

Indian Food Festival (17 – 25 March)

An Indian Food Festival, showcasing the best Indian culinary experience, will also be hosted for a week at the Crown Plaza Hotel and would be jointly inaugurated by Consul General and Zhenjiang Leadership on 17th March noon.  An Indian Chef has been specially invited outside to prepare select Indian delicacies for the Indian Food Festival, which will last for one week for Zhenjiang food lovers.  

All in all, a truly Indian experience awaits the people of Zhenjiang, in the week beginning 16th March. It is hoped that the Business and Investment Forum coupled with the series of cultural events will foster a better understanding of Indian arts and culture in the minds of Zhenjiang people and further promote all-round development of bilateral ties.
