India – China (Nanjing) IT Cooperation and Exchanges Symposium organised in Nanjing today (13 January 2017)

     In partnership with NASSCOM, CGI Shanghai along with Nanjing Municipal People’s Government organised an India – China (Nanjing) IT Cooperation and Exchanges Symposium at the Convention Center located in Jiangning District of Nanjing city. The objective of the IT Forum was to explore collaborative opportunities between Chinese manufacturers and Indian IT industry, in particular in the Internet of Things (IOT) domain.

2.     Nearly 50 leading Chinese companies from sectors like Intelligent Equipment Manufacturing, Aviation Engineering, Smart Grids, Energy Saving and Environmental Protection Technologies, New Generation IT, Health and Big Data Cloud Computing participated at the daylong event, which included a CEO’s dialogue between Indian IT Industry representatives from Infosys, Wipro, TCS, HCL, Tech Mahindra and covered sessions on Artificial Intelligence, IT Application in the Time of Internet Plus and on Ecological Construction of Intelligent Industry.

3.     Consul General of India in Shanghai, Mr. Prakash Gupta led the Indian delegation and addressed the opening session and called for greater collaborative opportunities between Indian and Chinese companies in the IT and IT Enabled Services (ITES) sector and encouraged Chinese companies to take advantage of the opportunities available as part of the ongoing Make in India initiative of the Government of India. Vice Mayor of Nanjing Municipal Government, Mr. Xie ZhiZheng, also delivered the inaugural address and welcomed Indian IT companies participation in collaborative ventures in the Chinese market.

4.     Mr. Gagan Sabharwal, Director, Global Trade Development, NASSCOM made presentation on behalf of NASSCOM and underlined that traditionally Chinese companies were very good in manufacturing and India had the software prowess and when one combines hardware with software – there was a natural win – win for both Indian and Chinese companies, to collaborate and come up with world-class products, in particular in Internet of Things (IoT) domain.

5.     It may be noted that NASSCOM is the premier trade body and the chamber of commerce of the IT-BPO industries in India, with more than 1800 members, which include both Indian and multinational companies that have a presence in India. NASSCOM's member companies are broadly in the business of software development, software services, software products, consulting services, BPO services, e-commerce & web services, engineering services offshoring and animation and gaming. NASSCOM’s membership base constitutes over 95% of the industry revenues in India and employs over 3.1 million professionals.

6.     Most of India’s leading IT companies have business presence in China and include TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL Technologies, Tech Mahindra, NIIT and others. The Indian IT industry clocked revenues of USD 146 billion in 2015 and its exports expected to grow at the rate of 12 – 14 %. India has also emerged as the world's largest sourcing destination for IT industry, accounting for 67% of the US$ 124-130 billion market and is gaining prominence in terms of intellectual capital with several global IT firms setting up their innovation centres in India
