Multipurpose hall inaugurated with celebration of Tagor's 149th birthday

 

On 8th May, the Consul General inaugurated the new multipurpose hall in the Consulate with the celebration of Tagore’s 149th birth anniversary. Local artistes rendered some Tagore songs. The Consulate organized a screening of Satyajit Ray’s documentary on Tagore and the documentary ‘The Making of Gitanjali’ produced by Ministry of External Affairs. The event was organized for the Indian community.

Tagore’s 149th birth anniversary celebrated at Shanghai Expo

The 149th Birth Anniversary of Poet Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated at the India Pavilion on May 10, 2010. The programme was organized by the Consulate General of India in collaboration with Shanghai Writers Association (SWA).

This was the second time that the Consulate organized an event on Tagore’s Birthday along with the SWA. The event revolved around singing of Tagore songs & poetry reading largely in Chinese. Well-known TV and Radio artists Ms. Cao Lei, Ms.Di Feifei, Mr.Lu Cheng & Mr Liu Jiazhen participated in the poetry reading. Tagore’s well-known poem “Where the Mind is Without Fear” was read in Bengali, English and Chinese. Mrs. Dona Ganguly, a renowned Odissi dancer, who was in Shanghai for World Expo, performed three dance items which made the programme very colourful and lively. A large number of people attended the event. A booklet on Tagore prepared by the Consulate in collaboration with SWA was released on the occasion.
