Celebration of Tagore's 150th Birth Anniversary at SWA

 

In collaboration with the Shanghai Writers Association, Consulate General of India celebrated the 150th Birth Anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore on October 22, 2011 at the Shanghai Writers Association with a poetry reading session.

 

Eminent Television and Radio artistes Ms. Cai Jingping, Ms. Cai Lei and Mr. Chen Hui read Tagore poems from Gitanjali, Crossing and Gardner in Chinese.

Eminent Indian poet Mr. Sudeep Sen who is in Shanghai to attend an International Writers in Residence programme read some of his own translations from Bhanushinger Padavali and Khapcharra.

Ms. Trupti Mehta Deshpande, Kunal Sinha and Debajyoti Das read poems by Tagore in Marathi, English and Bengali. Debarati Ghosh opened the programme with rendition of a Tagore song. Consul General Riva Ganguly Das and Zhao Lihong, Vice Chairman of Shanghai Writers Association spoke at the event and highlighted the continued influence of Tagore in China. This was the third time that Consulate had organized a poetry reading session in collaboration with the Writers Association to celebrate Tagore’s birth anniversary in Shanghai.
