South Asian Voices in Global Conversations

 

Acclaimed writers Kunal Basu, Arvind Subramanian of India and Sunethra Rajakarunanayake of Sri Lanka participated in a panel discussion “SOUTH ASIAN VOICES IN GLOBAL CONVERSATIONS” on Saturday March 3rd in Shanghai. These celebrated Writers were in the city for ‘The 10th Shanghai International Literary Festival’ (SILF). The event was organized with the joint efforts of the Consulates-General of India, Sri Lanka & Pakistan.

The lively discussion & reading was attended by people from all walks of life in Shanghai. The audience included academics, business persons, university professors, students, media – electronic & print and members from the diplomatic community. The discussion, which was brilliantly moderated by the Shanghai-based writer Mishi Saran, focused not only on their works but also various aspects of their life including their upbringing, motivation, gender influence on writing etc. During the discussions, while Sunethra read out from her poems and spoke about her story The Chinese Wife, Kunal Basu read from his book The Yellow Emperor’s Cure and Arvind Subramanian read from his recent bookEclipse: Living in the Shadow of China's Economic Dominance. Arvind’s work will soon be appearing in Chinese.
