In this regard it was felt that enhanced interaction between the academic and research community in the two countries can play an important role by sharing research experiences about urban governance issues and documentation of the findings, which could help in addressing some of the common concerns and possibly contribute to the policy-making process. During the conference, 23 scholars from China and India presented papers on different urban topics under three sub-themes, namely Urban Restructuring and Economic Development, Cultural Factors in Urban Restructuring, and Social Management Problems in Urban Restructuring.

This Summit is part of an effort to increase interaction between scholars from India, China and Hong Kong and to focus on contemporary common challenges. The first such summit was held in Hong Kong in November 2011. The next summit will be held in New Delhi (hosted by Observer Research Foundation) and subsequent two will be organized in Beijing and Mumbai.
