Bhartanatyam Performances in East China Region in commemoration of 64th Republic Day of India

 

Consulate General of India organised a Bharatanatyam dance recital on the occasion of 64th Republic Day of India on January 27, 2013 at the Changing District Art Centre, Shanghai. An 8-member dance troupe led by Ms Jayalakshmi Eshwar enthralled the audience with their performance. More than 550 people attended the show with maximum of them being local Chinese. A number of people from the diplomatic community in Shanghai were also present at the performance. The event was organized with the support of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Shanghai People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (SPAFFC).

The Consulate also organized an interaction between the visiting troupe and Chinese artists at the Changing Folk Art Center in the morning of January 27, 2012. The artists not only presented their dance at the interaction but also discussed about possibilities of future cooperation.

The group led by Jayalakshmi Eshwar also travelled to the city of Jiaxing in Zhejiang province on January 28 for a performance. Senior officials of Jiaxing City People's Government attended the show. Local Chinese as well as members of Indian community too attended the event. The group mesmerized the audience with their performance.
