Literary Interaction between Indian and Chinese Writers

 

Consulate General of India and Shanghai Writers' Association jointly organized a literary panel featuring Chinese and Indian authors on 10th March 2013. The Chinese writers included Mr. Chen Cun, Vice-Chairman of Shanghai writers' Association and Ms. Xue Shu. Chen Cun was born in 1954 in Shanghai, and is one of the best recognized and leading writers of China. Some of his best known works are Chen Cun's Collection (1996), and the long novels, Flowers (1997) and Was (2008). Ms. Shu is a member of China Writers` Association and Shanghai Writers' Association, and her works have been published in important literary magazines and periodicals. She was awarded the 2007 China's Writer Erdos Rookie of the Year Award. Indian authors included Mr. Rahul Bhattacharya and Mr. Kunal Sinha. Rahul Bhattacharya is author of the novel "The Sly Company of People Who Care", which won the Hindu Literary Prize for Best Fiction in 2011 and the Royal Society of Literature Ondaatje Prize in 2012. Kunal Sinha is Regional Cultural Insights Director, Ogilvy & Mather Asia/Pacific, and Chief Knowledge Officer, China based in Shanghai. He is the author of the award-winning book "China's Creative Imperative" and "Raw: Pervasive Creativity in Asia". Both Rahul and Kunal were also featured speakers at the 2013 Shanghai International Literary Festival. The panel was moderated by Indira Ravindran, Visiting professor at the School of Political Science and International Relations, Tongji University, Shanghai.
