From Tagore to Mo Yan : The Universality of the One Hundred Year\'s Oriental Culture

 

Consulate General of India, Shanghai in association with Tongji University, Peking University, Fudan University, China's People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Shanghai Writer's Association organized an International Academic Conference "From Tagore to Mo Yan : The Universality of the One Hundred Year's Oriental Culture" on June 1-2, 2013. The Conference was organized keeping in view that this year is the centenary of Tagore's Noble Prize. Using Tagore and Chinese Nober laureate Mo Yan, as the two anchors, the Conference deliberated upon the theme of rising awareness in Asia about the eastern culture and its relevance to the world.

Invitees to the conference included a large number of delegates from China, India, Japan, South Korea, Germany and the US. In addition, a 20-member ensemble from Viswa Bharti performed a recital of poems from 'Geetanjali'. The recital drew standing ovation from the packed house.
